ABOUT
I am a Franco-Spanish author from Réunion Island, now based in Switzerland. An environmental engineer by profession, I work in water treatment.
Heirs of the Fournaise began with one very simple question: « Kosa bana i manz ? » — what do they eat?
That question led to others: where does the water come from? How does an isolated community produce what it needs to survive, organise itself and pass knowledge on? What rules does it create in order to endure?
That is how Mahavel began to take shape.
RÉUNION ISLAND
Réunion Island is not simply a setting in my first novel.
I imagine the island transformed by a catastrophe, and the societies rebuilding in its aftermath. Its terrain, its volcano, its distances, its languages and its history shape the world of Mahavel.
The territory imposes constraints, opens up possibilities and shapes how the characters live, move through the island and perceive the world around them.
Writing allows me to explore, in another way, questions that fascinate me: how we adapt to constraints, the rules we create in order to live together, what we pass on — and what we are prepared to challenge.
